Healthy Hair Dye
How do you get red hair color to last? More importantly, hair color that isn’t toxic to your health? What we expose our bodies to directly affects our quality of life. Keep reading as I show you how to get the most perfect red velvet hair color without putting your health in danger.
Have you ever gotten your hair colored red just to have it wash out in the next few washes? Now, sometimes this can’t be avoided if your hair isn’t healthy enough to hold color or if it was bleached blonde. Even if its healthy, it will take a few times before it fills in the shaft enough to hold on to the pigment ( I share a tip for that later in this post). I’m going to take you through the steps of how I layer hair color and what brand I use.
Nontoxic haircolor is advertised everywhere but most of the time..well its not true. I’m very proud to use a company that actually is plantbased and eco friendly AND most of the ingredients are organic. I’ve been to the headquarters and seen it all with my own eyes and learned the ins and outs of how the color is made, down to specific chemical functions.
AllNutrient is a company that is cruelty free, vegan, made in America, eco-friendly and Rainforest Alliance Certified. And they make the best hair color i’ve ever used with none of the things that will give you cancer including the fact that they don’t make aerosols!
Ok, moving on. Here’s my formula for the perfect Red Velvet Haircolor.
Step One: if the base level is between a 1-5 I will lighten the whole head first and move to step two. If the base level is 5-7 I apply 6RC with 20 vol for 30 minutes. If the base is 7-10 I go straight to step two also.
Step two: Apply 6R with 10 Vol for 25 minutes, this color line can be applied to damp hair so no need to dry in between applications!
Step three: Apply 6RS in Keratint (Demi permanent gloss) with 5 volume for 10 minutes.
This process builds up color and pigment into the hair and ultimately gives it a very unique and rich tone.
If you want to kick the longevity up a notch, use AllNutrient’s Copper Shampoo every other wash because it adds pigment back into the hair!
If you’re having trouble with fading because your hair is damaged, consider applying a direct dye over the hair color like Arctic Fox Sunset because the pigment will sit on top and acts as more of a stain.
I hope you got some value from this post and if anything, now you know of another haircolor line that is healthy for you and isn’t henna!
